01Moderation principles
Our commitment
Moderation is never based on whether Opinions agrees with a lawful political or social view. We moderate conduct and illegality — not opinions.
02Automated systems
When content is reported, OPI — our conversation guide, powered by an AI model — assesses it against the Community Guidelines and decides “Breaks the rules” or “Can stay”. Automated assistance can make mistakes, which is why appeals exist.
03Human review
People on our team can review, override or restore any automated decision, and handle appeals and account-level actions.
04Contextual review
We consider context: the debate topic, whether something is quoted, satire, or self-description, and the history of the conversation.
05Enforcement levels
- Warning — a formal notice.
- Content removal — replaced with “Removed by OPI” and the guideline it broke.
- Reduced visibility — where appropriate, content may be shown less widely.
- Feature restrictions — limits on posting or replying.
- Temporary suspension — no access for a set period.
- Permanent suspension — a ban.
Emergency action
Where there is a risk of serious harm we may act immediately.
Repeat violations
Repeated breaches lead to stronger action.
06How decisions are communicated
Reporters get a notification with the outcome, viewable in Profile → Reported → OPI’s Review. Authors see removal notices on their content, and account actions are explained where possible.
07How to appeal
Open the decision in Profile → Reported and tap Request another review. Appeals are limited to keep the system fair.
08What to include
- Which content or decision it concerns
- Why you think the decision was wrong
- Any context we might have missed
09How appeals are reviewed
Appeals are looked at again, with a person able to make the final call.
10Possible outcomes
- Decision upheld
- Content restored
- Content removed
- Account action changed or lifted
